Manteca, CA

The San Joaquin Valley

Located in San Joaquin County, California, Manteca (nicknamed “The Family City”) is an excellent place to live. Founded in 1861 by Joshua Cowell, Manteca is well known for being a great agricultural area, and is the Spanish word for lard. In 1873, Central Pacific Railroad ran tracks directly through the city. The residents wanted to name the train station after the city, but Cowell Station was already in existence. The residents decided to rename the city altogether, choosing Monteca. However, due to a misprint, Monteca became Manteca, and Manteca, CA, was born!

Manteca, CA is  75.5 miles from San Francisco and San Jose, 59 miles fro Sacramento. The terrain in Manteca is hilly, with cliffs, waterfalls, mountains, and deserts; a section of the San Joaquin River flows through the city. Bordered by Stockton, Ripon, and Lathrop, one of California’s fastest growing cities.
